Mark McGirr storms home for second win of season at Ballivor GP

Mark McGirr has taken his second win of the season at the
Ballivor GP, the Lakeland Cycling Club man winning a bunch finish.

He got the verdict in a hard fought sprint from Mark David Heather of Scott-Orwell.

Paul Norton (Strata 3-VeloRevolution) was 3rd and Craig Sweetman (Stamullen RC) took 4th place.

The race was run over laps of a local 18km circuit for a total race distance of 54km.

In the Navan Road Club promotion the riders clocked an average speed of 44km per hour.

The A1-A2 men caught the A3 group within about 5km and
were onto the A4 limit riders just over the halfway mark on the opening lap.

Eventual winner McGirr went clear in one of the many moves
but after about 10km they were caught.

While he covered further threatening looking breakaways,
the short race was fast and furious and none of the groups stuck.

In the run-in to the finish line McGirr took it up early,
leading it out and just holding off those behind.

The Lakeland man adds his win this evening in Co Meath to
other results so far this year, including victory at the Clogher Valley GP.

Before taking that win, now his first of a brace to date in 2019, he also bagged 3rd in the McCann Cup and 5th in the Bann Valley Classic.
