Marcus Christie (Isle of Man CC) may have come up short earlier in the season in his quest to add another medal to his collection at the National TT Championships in Co Westmeath, but he is clearly firing on all cylinders at present.

The former Irish international, who represented Ireland at the Worlds and Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games, was fastest in a very large field in the latest round of the Ernie Magwood Super 6 Series in Co Antrim last night, Thursday.

Indeed, Christie went out and back so fast - on the quickest course in the country - he went close to the Irish 10 mile TT record of Ryan Mullen, at 17:42, which was matched by junior phenom Conor Murphy (Caldwell Cycles) earlier in the season.

Christie last night recorded a time of 17:49, just seven seconds off Mullen's time from 2014, and nudged young Murphy into 2nd place on the night after the teenager stopped the clock at 18:02 for the runner-up spot.

Ian Inglis of Kinning Cycles completed the podium in Ballymena after he recorded a time of 18:30, some 25 seconds faster than Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport) in 4th place.

In the women's race, Eileen Burns (Ballymena RC) was best by over a minute after she stopped the clock, on home roads, in a time of 21:13.
