Andy Maguire (Team Stafford Bonded) and Aoife O'Brien (Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar) are the new Leinster criterium champions after winning gold in the title races held in Corkagh Park, Dublin, today.

Maguire, the former national criterium champion, prevailed in the men's race after escaping in a breakaway and getting the better of his fellow escapees in the sprint to the line to settle the destination of the medals.

Jason Kenny (UCD Cycling Club) took the silver and Ronan Killeen (Lucan Cycling Road Club) claimed bronze in the Cycling Leinster promotion.

The medal winners made up the three-man breakaway, with Killeen getting clear first before Maguire and Kenny got across to him. Once that trio went clear they worked well to gain a gap before the racing got cagier up front in the final laps.

Kenny had a go in the finale, with Killeen also trying just as the final lap began. However, when he eased up Maguire saw his chance; surging forward and holding off his two rivals to win.

In the women's race, former junior road race champion O'Brien triumphed over Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar team mate Orla Walsh, with Jennifer Neenan (Sundrive Track Team) taking bronze.
