Maes and Young take team clean sweep at Munster Cyclocross

Richie Maes has taken victory in the men's race at De Ronde Cross in Co Cork today. The All human-VeloRevolution rider was best on a great day for racing at The Show Grounds in Curraheen.

In the women's race, Grace Young made it a double victory for All human-VeloRevolution just a week after she also proved best at Dungarvan CC Cyclocross

Maes got the verdict in the men's race today from Conor Hennebry (Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo) and Richie Barry, the St Finbarr's rider who has been in flying form in recent weeks.

Maes rode very strongly from the start and by the fourth lap he had built a lead of about 40 seconds over chasers Barry and Hennebry.

However, the eventual winner then hit some problems and was in danger of seeing the chance at victory slipping away. He first broke a shifter before dropping a chain.

As a result of those problems, Hennebry and Barry pegged back the lone leader to about 10 seconds, though Maes held his nerve and continued to pound away at the front.

Maes then began to extend his advantage and by the finish he had restored the lead he had enjoyed when he suffered his mechanicals.

In the women's race, Young once again took the victory ahead of Márcia Isabel Bandarra Salvador of TC Racing, for a repeat of the 1-2 from last weekend in Dungarvan.

While Young took another decisive win today she, like team mate Maes, had her problems along the way. The wrong tyre choice for the day saw her endure a difficult first lap, with several slide outs.

It meant she started the second lap with some time to make up on Salvador. However, once Young - the former national cyclocross and criterium champion - changed bikes, she found her groove.
