Richard Maes and Grace Young were on target today for All human-VeloRevolution when they took victory in the main men's and women's events at the Munster Cyclocross Series at Ballindenisk Equestrian Centre, Co Cork.
Young has been back to her best on the cyclocross scene in recent weeks and has now won all four rounds of the Munster series to date. She also claimed victory last weekend in Glencullen, Dublin, at the Leinster Cyclocross Series.
For Maes, today was his first win of the new 2022-23 season and he went hard from the gun. He took about 20 seconds on his nearest challenger - Richard Barry (St Finbarr's CC) - on that opening lap. From that point, on a greasy circuit where picking the right lines was essential, Maes continued to power away and added a few seconds more to his lead on each passage of the course, raced seven times.
Behind him, Barry came through for 2nd place with up-and-comer Sam Bolger of Killarney CC taking 3rd. Maes is preparing for the World Masters Championships in December in Ipswich, with today's win a good confidence-booster as he gears up for that challenge.
More to come.
