Madden in sweetest Masters 50 win; Hargan owns Masters 60

John Madden may well have been the strongest in last year's race but ended up second to the wily Declan Hanrahan (Panduit Carrick Wheelers). The Inspired Cycling man made no mistake this time around, however.

John Madden went one better than last year to win the national masters O50 race in Kilcullen today, the Inspired Cycling man edging Donal Mahon (Galway Bay CC) in a two-up sprint.

Madden has been 12 months waiting for this day and made no mistake this time around, proving the strongest over the course of the three-lap affair that saw a healthy field of 62 sign on.

The two came into the finishing straight together but Madden led it out and just about held off a very brave challenge from Mahon.

The M60 race was won by Sean Hargan (Phoenix CC) with Sean Lally (Team Smartlamp) second and Jimmy Flynn (Cuchulainn CC) third.

They did two laps of the course for 52 kilometres and though it stayed together in the early part, Hargan went clear by himself and was not for catching taking a clear solo win.
