Welcome to our live coverage of the Mick Lally Memorial in Summerhill, Co Meath. After weeks and weeks of rain in Ireland, the weather is absolutely cracking here today. Incredible as it sounds, it's blue skies all the way.

We'll be bringing you updates of the main event today, below, so stay with us for all the action in what is the first race of the season. At stickybottle we're also sponsoring the race as. The promoting club, Dublin Wheelers CC, is the one we raced for (some years ago at this stage!)

LIVE UPDATES

  • Junior rider Jack Woods (Crabbe Dstny) wins, a year after winning the support race - that's a super start to the season for the kid.
  • This is going to be a bunch gallop. Who will be strongest up the Dorey's Forge ramp to the line?
  • Bunch of about 20 riders has caught the breakaway, which was just messing about too much, too many long stalls...
  • The bunch is now right behind the leaders... I think they will catch them, incredible as that sounds. Orwell Wheelers on the front...
  • 4km to the finish now and still the four leaders together: Daire Feeley (Burren CC), Cian Keogh (APS Pro Cycling), Josh Callaly (Velo Performance Racing Team) and Matthew Walls (APS Pro Cycling).
  • Now Walls has a go, a big dig. Feeley gets on to him, then Callaly. Keogh is also there but it took him a bit longer to close the gap. Just as I type that, Keogh has a go, and then Walls again. The remains of the bunch are not too far back...
  • Scully is now still on his own, about 20 seconds off the back of the four leaders.
  • With 9km to go, Cian Keogh has attacked and Feeley was on to him immediately, with Walls and Callaly just behind.  They've stalled here now, they are really slowing here. They need to be really, really careful because their gap back to the bunch is not that large - down to 40 seconds at last check. Hmmmm
  • Callaly is perhaps under a bit of pressure in this group. Keogh let a gap open, bringing Callaly a few lengths off the back, and then jumped him, just a bit. So it looks like the APS lads want to get rid of Callaly so they can work over Feeley. But all of that is much, much easier said than done....
  • Feeley has a dig now, with Keogh on to him. Walls and Callaly are able to respond. It doesn't look like Scully is going to get back on.
  • The first attack, with 12km to go, has been thrown in by Matthew Walls (APS Pro Cycling), closely marked by Feeley. That pressure has sent Scully out the back. And the bunch has now reduced the gap to the leaders to 38 seconds.
  • Scully again on the front. Hmmmm not sure why he's doing that, especially with team mates Wall and Keogh in here and the likes of Feeley also in the group. One thing is for sure - Scully has wintered well, he looks like he is motoring.
  • The leaders need to keep working as it looks like the chase group behind them has closed in a little, though most of their gap of one minute remains intact.
  • Scully is lining out this lead group - he is putting in some ride today, so strong.
  • Our leaders again on this last lap of the Mick Lally Memorial: Daire Feeley (Burren CC), Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey), Cian Keogh (APS Pro Cycling), Josh Callaly (Velo Performance Racing Team) and Matthew Walls (APS Pro Cycling).
  • We are through the finish line and we have taken the bell - one lap of this 22km circuit to go. These five lads are motoring. Scullty has been away almost the whole race. He'd be entitled to sit in here now, even miss a few turns.
  • Walls also has a team mate in this five-man breakaway in the shape of Cian Keogh. But they are up against last year's race winner, Daire Feeley, as well as Callaly and Scully.
  • Matthew Walls (APS Pro Cycling) is in his first race as an U23 rider, having won the Junior Tour of Ireland last year. I was chatting to him before the race and he notably looked in mint condition. He's had training camps in Spain and the US recently.
  • Mark Dowling (VeloRevolution) is trying to get a chase going on the front of the bunch, which numbers about 25 riders now. But a lot of firepower has gotten out of this bunch and is up the road. This breakaway looks really good.
  • In the five-man breakaway we have Daire Feeley (Burren CC), Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey), Cian Keogh (APS Pro Cycling), Josh Callaly (Velo Performance Racing Team) and Matthew Walls (APS Pro Cycling). They have a one-minute gap with just over one lap to go.
  • We have five leaders now, after a couple of riders got across to the three-man breakaway on this third lap of four in the Mick Lally Memorial. The five leaders have 58 seconds. Names coming up...
  • With two laps done - so half way through the race - we have Daire Feeley (Burren CC), Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey) and Cian Keogh (APS Pro Cycling) leading.
  • We are now 36km into this race, so 4km from the climb of Dorey's Forge for the second time. We have three riders away and they are three familiar names - Daire Feeley (Burren CC), Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey) and Cian Keogh (APS Pro Cycling). They jumped away again after being caught.
  • Feeley-Keogh-Rafferty are caught. And Scully has thrown in the towel - sat up and waited for the bunch after dangling out there on his own for too long.
  • Daire Feeley (Burren CC), Aaron Rafferty (Bohermeen CC) and Cian Keogh (APS Pro Cycling) off the front, chasing lone leader Scully. But the gaps between them and the bunch are modest.
  • In the first few KMs of this second lap, Mark Shannon (Burren CC) has come back to the bunch and leaves Con Scully (Dan Morrissey) up front alone leading. He only has about 10 seconds now, not looking good.
  • The leaders had 29 seconds passing through finish line with three laps of 22km to go. This race has not started as hard as last year's edition. This bunch hasn't really sprung into life yet. It was tame up Dorey's Forge, nobody was too pushed about closing down Shannon and Scully.
  • The leaders have passed through the finish line on Dorey's Forge for the first time, so that's the first of the 22km laps done. Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey-Pissei) and Mark Shannon (Burren CC) still lead by about 30 seconds. We'll have an official time gap now shortly.
  • We've had quite a bit of activity in the small bunch, which has split into a couple of groups and the come back together as we are still on this opening lap of four at the Mick Lally Memorial. Shannon and Scully still lead.
  • Up front it's Mark Shannon of Burren CC and one of the Dan Morrissey riders, the one and only Con Scully. Two good lads, both well able to motor.... They are plugging away and have opened a gap, maybe 20-30 seconds, perhaps a bit more.
  • The two leading riders are putting in a great effort here, big gap now.
  • At the back, David Harrington of Lucan CRC has a mechanical, looks like he needs a back wheel. Not a great start but hopefully he can get sorted and get back in here.
  • We have two leading, then one rider on his own chasing at 10 seconds and the bunch at five seconds. We'll get you names very shortly.
  • That lead group had now swelled to six, after a few men flew across the gap, though they were brought back.
  • About 3km in and we have a few attacks off the front, two riders are away, with a gap of about 10 seconds on the other 31 riders in this race.
  • The C1 race is now just underway. We have four laps of the Dorey's Forge circuit and it's 22km per lap. It's a draggy course, and the Dorey's Forge ramp - where the race finishes - is steep. But there's no major climbs today.

We are waiting for the off...
