Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport) has won gold at the Ulster Criterium Championships after riding in the breakaway off the front for much of the race before sprinting in to win.

It was Watson's second victory of the season, after winning the Waller Cup in Bohermeen, Co Meath, back in April. Last night junior rider James Armstrong (VZW WP de Molenspurters Meulebeke) put in the latest in a series of strong performances this season, going on the attack with eventual winner Watson.

However, after they were caught, the battle for the medals came down to a sprint from a group of seven, with Watson winning it from James McKenny (Moynalty CC) and Jack Kennedy (Dan Morrissey Pissei).

In the C3 race, Jamie Clarke (North Down CC) led in the bunch to take victory from Richard Topping (Killinchy CC) and Lee Harvey (VC Glendale).

Last night's championships were run as part of the Ards Criterium, promoted by Ards Cycling Club, in Newtownards, Co Down.
