Lindsay Watson and Nikki Taggart take victory at Nutts Corner

Nikki Taggart and
Lindsay Watson have taken victory at the latest round of the Kinning Series at
Nutts Corner, Co Antrim.

In the women’s race
Arcane’s Taggart came to the line with McConvey Cycles rider Erin Creighton and
took the victory in a two-up sprint; the verdict settled in a bike throw on the
line after all-out racing.

Ballymena Road Club’s
Sharon Bird and Laura Blair, who were 1st and 3rd last
week, put in constant attacks, pressing Taggart and Creighton hard.

However, while the
Ballymena duo proved a menace in the four-rider lead group they were, unfortunately,
to come unstuck in wet conditions on the technical motor racing circuit.

With about four laps to
go Blair was the first of the Ballymena riders to crash and on the penultimate
lap her team mate also crashed out of contention.

That left Taggart – the
winner of the Women’s Intermediate League at Limerick Racecourse at the weekend
– and Creighton to fight it out for victory.

Taggart collected another win last night, with Creighton taking 2nd place, as she did last week at the Kinning Series.

In the men’s race
Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport) turned aggressive performances over the last
two weeks into victory last night in the handicapped event.

The race began with
three groups, with one minute gaps between them, and as there were only four
riders in the A1 scratch group they had their work cut out for them.

However, at around the
halfway point the groups came together. A couple of laps later George Peden
(Prologue Performance Cycling) attacked.

Having won a number of
TTs since the re-start of racing following the Covid19-related shutdown, Peden
might have gone for a long-range move only for Watson tracking him closely.

From that point the
leading pair worked well together and extended their lead all the way to the
finish line, where Watson took the sprint to win from Peden.

Chris McGlinchey (Vitus
Pro Cycling) led home a seven-man chase group from brothers Dean and Adam
Harvey, of VC Glendale, with the winner’s team mate Shay Donnelly rounding out
the top six.
