Killian O'Brien has gotten off to a flying start at the Junior Tour of Wales despite a late call-up to the Cycling Leinster team and only being confirmed as a starter in the race today.

O'Brien, who has been racing very well in Europe in recent weeks, went up against the best British juniors and put it up to them, taking a very strong top six in the opening TT.

Josh Callaly and O'Brien, both riding for Cycling Leinster, were very strong at the finish, and were 2nd and 3rd quickest of the 100-rider field on the final cat 1 climb of the 8.83km from Brynmawr to Tumble.

That saw them secured points in the climbers' classification and are now 2nd and 3rd in that competition, behind leader Ethan Squires (Beeston Cycling Club).
