Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) is back in action again for the first time since making her debut at the Tour de France last month and the Irish rider has wasted no time securing some results.
The Irish rider has been 5th and 9th on stages at Simac Ladies Tour (2.WWT) in the Netherlands, were the crosswinds have split the field, and also made the front group on stage yesterday in a 112km attack.
All four stages so far have ended in sprints won by Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx-Protime), bring her tally of wins for the season to 22 and her career total to 114.
Though Wiebes faces into a 10.1km TT tomorrow, not her speciality, into Westendorp she has 30 seconds - due to time bonuses - on 2nd place Megan Jastrab (Team Picnic PostNL). Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) is 3rd overall at 34 seconds and Margaux Vigié (Visma | Lease a Bike) 4th at 40 seconds.
However, there is then a much bigger gap, over well over a minute, to the next riders, all of whom missed the nine-rider breakaway, featuring Wiebes, on stage 2. Though Gillespie was among those not in the group, she made the lead group of 17 riders yesterday, which gained 7:45 on the bunch.
Gillespie sprinted to 5th place on the day and was 9th today, leaving her in 8th overall, on the same time as 10 riders all at 1:24. It will be interesting to see how Gillespie can do in the TT tomorrow, ahead of the final stage on Sunday; a 156.3km race to Lichtenvoorde, with seven short cobbled climbs.
