Lara Gillespie has underlined her form as she continues her last block of road racing before the World Track Championships; taking a very strong result in the Netherlands today.
The UAE Team ADQ suffered a little bit today for the lack of a better lead-out in the final kilometre of the 154.8km stage 2 at Simac Ladies Tour (2.WWT) into Assen.
The stage into Coevorden came down to a bunch sprint featuring some of the best riders in the world; won by Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx-Protime) from Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) and Charlotte Kool (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL).
Gillespie, who started the sprint a little far back but more than held her own, took 7th, just one place ahead of world champion Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx-Protime).
On yesterday's opening stage - a 10.1km TT in Gennep - Gillespie finished in 47th place, some 1:05 down on Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon//SRAM Racing). Bäckstedt, who finished in the bunch today, still leads the race overall with four stages remaining.
