Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) has taken her first podium result on European roads this season, with 2nd place at FENIX-EKOÏ Omloop van het Hageland (1.1), just 24 hours after crashing at Omloop Nieuwsblad (1.WWT).

Former Irish road race champion Fiona Mangan (Mayenne Monbana My Pie) also put in a storming finish to get up for 9th place on the day; a great showing by the two Irish women.

The Wicklow woman, who was also 2nd in this race last year, finished behind double Tour de France stage winner Charlotte Kool (Fenix-Premier Tech) after the Dutch rider launhed her sprint first.

She took the initiative and held off Gillespie, who came through fast, just after three breakaway riders were recaptured in the closing kilometres at the end of the 141.8km race.

Belgium's Shari Bossuyt (AG Insurance-Soudal Team) was 3rd today in the reduced bunch sprint that settled the honours in Tielt-Winge.
