Glenn Kinning looked certain to take a medal at the Masters World Cyclocross Championships today only to suffer a puncture and lose his place at the the front of the race.

The Kinnings Cycles rider had put in a very strong start and pulled clear with two others - who eventually went on to take gold and silver - during today's world title race at Trinity Park, Ipswich, Suffolk.

However, while the leading trio looked certain to take the medals, Kinning punctured and saw his chance of a medal evaporate.

While he battled on and eventually finished 4th - a very strong performance - he was left to rue his missed opportunity.

Aside from Kinning's 4th place, fellow Irishman Richie Maes took 5th on the day, also in the 35-39 years age group.

All human-VeloRevolution rider Maes converted his recent top form on the domestic scene, taking wins over the last two weekends, into an excellent result today in a world title race.

More to come.
