Kinning keeps his cool to claim back-to-back Ulster wins

Glenn Kinning has made it back to back wins in the Ulster Cyclocross Series after claiming the fourth round in Seacourt, Larne, on Sunday afternoon.

The Kinning Cycles man, who won at the same venue last year, saw off a brave challenge from Roger Aiken (Team ASEA) with Lewis Ferguson (North Down CC) rounding out the podium.

A total of 66 riders signed on for the ‘A’ race where eight laps of a tough and technical course had to be negotiated.

Kinning didn’t enjoy the best of starts and he fell behind early pace-setter Aiken who stormed in front.

But the eventual winner never panicked, and putting his good form to use he got back on level terms with the leaders and pressed on to the finish.

The field contained a good number of the top names, so little wonder Kinning was smiling afterwards.

“I was happy enough,” the victorious Kinning said afterwards.

“Everything went well apart from a bad opening lap but my form was good and I made the time up to the leaders.

“It was heavy going in parts today and Roger got a good start but I never panicked and caught him on the third lap.”

While Kinning singled out Aiken as tough to beat, third placed Ferguson was never too far behind throughout.

“I got a bike change with two laps to go and that made a big difference,” continued Kinning, who is clearly coming into some good form ahead of some Belgian races he has planned in a few weeks.

“The mud was starting to stick to the bike and it was tacky in a few places so I decided to change it with a couple of laps to go.”
