Glenn Kinning (Kinning Cycles) has held off Ronan O'Flynn (Orwell Wheelers) in an epic Masters 40 race at National Cyclocross Championships in Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
O'Flynn had made much of the running in the title race, pulling clear of Kinning in the early stages. However, as the contest progressed, and the leaders moved onto the penultimate lap, Kinning began to reel in O'Flynn.
But it wasn't until that final lap of the course that Kinning finally closed the gap and just nudged ahead; the duo riding around should-to-shoulder making for a very exciting finale.
Rounding the final bend, and onto the tarmac finishing straight, Kinning's final burst of power was simply too strong for O'Flynn, who had to be content with the silver medal.
Marcus Flavin (Dungarvan CC) took the bronze medal, with Evan Ryan (Team WORC) in 4th and Kevin Keane (St Tiernan's CC) rounding out the top five.
That was Kinning's third Masters 40 title in a row and O'Flynn's third trip to the podium.
