Twelve months after he took a memorable win on home turf in the Enduro World Series, Irishman Greg Callaghan has done it again this afternoon, Sunday.

After seven stages, the Cube Action Team rider was three seconds faster than Sam Hill with the red-hot favourite - and winner of the opening two rounds Richie Rude of the US having to settle for third place.

An enormous crowd descended on Carrick Wood in Glenealy, Co Wicklow, for today’s event and they weren’t disappointed; the host nation taking some truly outstanding results.

Toast of the Irish representation was Callaghan but 17-year-old Leah Maunsell was no less impressive in claiming the U21 women's title, again.

Callaghan’s cousin Killian Callaghan won the male U21 event, while ex-Olympian and multi-discipline national champion Robin Seymour showed his versatility by dominating the men’s masters’ event.

Enduro is similar to rallying in that the winner is decided by who has tallied the least cumulative time for each of the short stages run off in rapid succession.

Callaghan and Smith were locked in a right battle all afternoon but when the Irishman took the lead on stage five he never lost it.

The event was round 3 of the World Enduro Series and this year is the second year that Ireland has hosted it.

It’s a unique discipline in that it allows domestic riders compete with the world’s best on the same terrain and today, over 400 riders competed across the various disciplines.

The next round of the series takes the riders to La Thuile in Italy in July for round 4.
