Killian O'Brien, leading, has taken a brilliant victory in Italy today, the Irish junior seizing the day with an epic breakaway ride

Killian O'Brien has once again underlined his status as one of the very best juniors in the country, and a man to closely watch in the years ahead, by taking a very strong win in Italy today after an epic breakaway ride.

O'Brien, a former Orwell Wheeler riding for the Czech team Veleka this season, had already impressed on the international scene in recent weeks when he finished 3rd overall at the Junior Tour of Wales, where he was very clearly one of the strongest competing against the best of British.

Today it Italy he went on a solo attack for just over 80km to emerge victorious, by several minutes out front on his own, at Gran Premio Madonna delle Grazie.

He was 3:20 up on the chasing group, featuring nine riders and led in by O'Brien's team mate, Fabrizio Laino from Giuseppe Sciarra (Team Franco Ballerini)
