Tadhg Killeen (Kilcullen Cycling Club Murphy Geospacial) and three-time Olympian Robin Seymour (Team Worc) have fought out a very tight battle at the front of the men's race at the opening round of the Cyclocross National Series.
However, while that verdict went down to the wire in Belfast this afternoon, the women's race was very different as 17-year-old Greta Lawless (Team Worc) led the way by almost three minutes from Caoimhe May, the Orwell Wheelers rider who won the National Hill Climb Championships in Dublin on Saturday.
In the men's race, Killeen - who won last weekend in Navan - and Seymour were engaged in a race-long battle eventually just about won by the Killeen. He managed to hold off Seymour on the final lap of eight to win by just one second after an hour of racing.
Former national champion, Darnell Moore (Caldwell Cycles) took 3rd in the men's race, 1:17 down on the winner. Doireann Killeen (Kilcullen Cycling Club Murphy Geospacial) was 3rd in the women's race.
