Ryan O’Donovan (Cork County) has taken a marvellous win on stage three of the Corkman 3-Day in Kanturk today after he proved the best of the day’s 13-man break.

O’Donovan just got the better of Darragh Long of the Nicolas Roche Performance Team while Planet Tri rider Aidan Gallery was third.

The move clipped away on the second of five laps around the pan-flat Banteer circuit this afternoon, with Cathal Moynihan (Manor West Tralee) one of a number of GC threats in there. Michael Millar (Phoenix), who was second on yesterday's opening stage was also in the break, coming over the line in eighth place and he's now sixth overall.

Though they stayed away to the finish, coming over the line 11 seconds ahead of the main bunch, it looked for a while like the escape would have over 30 seconds to spare as the gap only began to really dwindle on the final lap of the 70km race.

Moynihan was leader on the road when the gap swelled to 40 seconds, but it is Blarney CC rider Kieran Crean who holds onto yellow after he won the morning’s time-trial.

Crean, who made his way into the break yesterday and succeeded in putting 36 seconds into many of the big challengers, did a superb 8k time-trial today, clocking 11mins 12 secs but that was almost 30 seconds slower than Barry Meade (Planet Tri) who won it in a brilliant time of 10mins 42seconds.

Meade’s efforts saw him jump up to third overall on GC, with Dungarvan’s Stephen Murray now in second, just a second off the yellow jersey.

It is all to play for on tomorrow's 90km stage with the top 10 riders separated by less than 21 seconds.
