Kevin McCambridge has put in a
very solid ride in the men’s junior time trial on the opening day of the
European Road Championships in Holland.
The Irish teenager placed 17th of
the 58-rider field, going around the 22.4km course in a time of 28:22.
McCambridge, the national TT
champion, did an average speed of 47.36km per hour.
He was 1:30 down on the winner and
exactly 30 seconds off the top 10; a more than decent ride in his debut at this
level.
The Irish teenager has enjoyed a
fantastic season to date, winning the Irish TT crown, placing 3rd in the road
race and 2nd overall in the Junior Tour of Ireland.
Compatriot Archie Ryan, who won
the queen stage of Junior Tour of Wales last year, also donned the green of
Ireland today in the Euros test; finishing in 42nd at 2:21.
The title was won by Italian
national champion Andrea Piccolo,
recording a time of 26:52 for a blistering 50km per hour average.
The 18-year-old, who was 3rd in the Worlds junior TT last
year, put 12 seconds into home rider Lars Boven, the Dutch champion.
Another of the Dutch riders, Enzo Leijnse, claimed the bronze medal, some 14 seconds off the pace of the winner.
