Paul Kennedy has taken a silver medal in the TT at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland; the second time the he has taken a medal away from the Worlds and the third of the Gran Fondo Worlds 2023 for Ireland riders.
While the number of Irish riders competing in the TTs yesterday was smaller than in the road races on Friday, there were still four top 10s. Greg Swinand - a former world champion - was also unlucky not to get a clearer crack at his race after a mishap before his effort even got underway.
Kennedy's silver came in the 40-44 years age group, won by former Continental rider Simon Wilson (Great Britain) in a time of 27:05. That was 43 seconds faster than Kennedy (Burren CC), with Jeppe Tolboll (Denmark) taking bronze at 46 seconds.

Ireland's Hazel Smyth (Kinning Cycles) was 8th in the women's 40-44 years TT while Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport) placed 7th in the men's 19-34 years race. In the 55-59 years TT John Madden was 10th and Greg Swinand 15th; the latter suffering a crash on his way to the start line.
Deirdre Reilly was 15th in the 45-49 years race with Colin McGready and Joseph Mullen 17th and 30th in the 60-64 years event. Jimmy Flynn was 17th in the men's 65-69 years event.
