Junior rider O'Connor scalps seniors to take control at Kanturk Three Day

Not for the first time this year, junior rider Philip O'Connor of Dungarvan CC has scalped the seniors; today winning stage 2 of the Kanturk Three Day and taking the yellow jersey from stage 1 winner Ronan Killeen (Lucan CRC).

O'Connor, who is riding for Team Tarrant Munster this weekend, already has a big win at the Galway Classic senior race under his belt this year. And today in Longfields Junction stage 2 TT, O'Connor claimed the victory.

His result - and the time he gained - when combined when his 6th place finish in the opening stage, was enough for him to take the yellow jersey from Killeen, who took the race lead with a solo win on Saturday's opening road stage on the Newmarket Circuit.

However, O'Connor finished just a fraction of a second ahead of Barry Meade of promoting club, O'Leary Stone Kanturk, meaning they tied on time at the top of the standings, though the junior rider has the yellow jersey ahead of this afternoon's stage 3.
