John Bogues' efforts as one of Phoenix CC's main organisers of today's National Cyclocross Championships in Belfast clearly did not interrupt his training for the event, as he took the vets' crown on a muddy Sunday afternoon in Lady Dixon Park.
Bogues was working on last minute plans until the 11th hour last night, but any fatigue from the effort he put in to help his club stage an excellent day's racing was overcome by local knowledge and strong legs as he took gold for the host club.
He won out ahead of Aiden McDonald of Cuchulainn CC in the silver medal position, with the ever-strong Jason Henry (Unattached) taking bronze.
Last year's title winner in Dundalk, Co Louth; Peter McConville was again well in the hunt today. However, there was to be no successful defence of his title as the Newry Wheelers man came home just outside the medals in 4th place.
We'll have much more from stickybottle's Gerard Cromwell in Belfast a little later.
