James Davenport wins Mountnugent Grand Prix solo

Enjoying a very strong season to date, James Davenport has claimed his third victory of the year at the Mountnugent GP.

The Strata 3-VeloRevolution rider was out on his own at the end of the 52km contest.

He had already won the Cycleways Cup and the DeRonde Classic earlier this year.

Davenport had showed his recent form with 2nd in both the Tommy Brady Memorial and the Seamus Kennedy Memorial.

And now he has turned that late season form into another win.

Last night’s race, promoted by Navan Road Club, was 11 laps and run in the handicapped format.

After the groups merged Davenport forged clear with Dale Walker of Phoenix CC.

And with three laps remaining the leading duo would split as the eventual winner pushed on alone.

It meant Davenport would win solo; with Walker holding his shape very well for 2nd place.

And best of the rest was Simon Jones (UCD-Fitzcycles.ie) from Frank Dunne (Strata 3-VeloRevolution), Liam Hanley (Lucan CRC) and Ryan Byrne Arcane CC.
