Jakobsen's incredible kick to win in Hungary, Bennett misses out | Video

Fabio Jakobsen - fourth rider above - produced a bazooka in the sprint on stage 2 at Tour de Hongrie to claim the victory by a very big margin

Any suggestion Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal-QuickStep) was not on song at present after a lack lustre sprint at Tour de Hongrie yesterday has been put to bed after an incredible turn of speed on today's stage 2.

The European champion came from a long way back to demolish the final sprint, passing Caleb Ewan (Lotto Dstny) last and out-kicking all of his rivals by a very significant margin in sodden conditions into Keszthely.

Jakobsen could only manage 7th yesterday in the bunch sprint, won by Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jayco AlUla) from Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe). And while he came from a long way back in the final sprint today, Jakobsen combined his strength and speed on the slightly uphill sprint into a headwind to win by a huge margin.

Ireland's Bennett missed out today after looking like he was in a great position - on Jakobsen's wheel as he kicked - but he faded to out of the top 10. It was not clear at the time of writing of Bennett had a mechanical issued in the sprint or if his legs let him down after 175.3km of racing in the rain.
