Irvine in action at the London Olympic Velodrome this evening, Friday
Ireland’s Martyn Irvine has overcome a nasty crash in the qualifying round of the omnium at the London World Cup, recovering to win the very next sprint after the race was restarted.
The pile up involved four riders who came down so heavily that repairs needed to be carried out on the track. The race was neutralised for a long time before restarting.
Olympic hopeful Irvine qualified in 5th place in his heat. He then went on to compete very consistently in the first two of the omnium’s six events, leaving himself 6th overall with four races remain; one later tonight and three tomorrow.
We have no results yet for the third omnium event this evening (Friday); the elimination race. However, find the results of the qualifiers, flying lap and points race below.

In the points race, Irvine won the last sprint and was fifth and third in two others. He was also among a number of riders who gained a lap, eventually finishing 6th in that event.
