The lead group contained no less than four of the French VC La Pomme outfit and the squad provided the day’s winner as Frenchman Benjamin Giraud outsprinted Jan Dietteren of Team Stolting and Italian Marco Zanotti of the Park Hotel Valkenburg continental team.

Some clever riding however saw former FDJ rider Remi Di Gregorio of VC La Pomme take over as race leader after he took some intermediate time bonuses.

Di Gregorio now leads the race by two seconds from teammate Giraud with Clancy (Novo Nordisk) and Irvine (United Healthcare)  now in 60th and 83rd place respectively, both five minutes and eight seconds down.
