The Irish team pursuit line-up has booked itself a place in the next round at the European Track Championships in Grenchen, Switzerland.
Alice Sharpe, Kelly Murphy, Emily Kay and Mia Griffin were
3rd in qualifying yesterday, meaning they go forward to meet the Italians later
today, Wednesday.
The Irish team clocked a time of 4:21.983 for the 4km distance, just over six tenths of a second outside the national record. Germany were fastest of the nine teams in the event, with 4:18.655. The Italians were next, just 0.256 seconds down.
Emily Kay had a busy day yesterday as she also rode the scratch race, finishing in 7th place. JB Murphy was 6th in the elimination race.
As well as the team pursuiters in action again today for Ireland, Murphy is due to ride the points race and Griffin will compete in the elimination race. Both riders have taken medals at the Europeans in recent seasons; Griffin as an U23 and Murphy as a junior.
