Kelly Murphy and Anna Turvey faced testing conditions during their TT rides at the World Championships in Yorkshire yesterday that were not made any easier by the late start time.

Because there was so much water on the course from the heavy rain the UCI decided very late to delay the start of the elite women's test.

It meant the entire field, many of whom were already underway with their warm ups, had to readjust to a later start and then race around in very wet conditions.

In the end Murphy put in a solid ride to finish 24th in the 30.3km TT in Harrogate, some 5:32 down. Turvey was 34th at 6:22.

The title was won in incredible fashion by young American Chloe Dygert-Owen; the 22-year-old making even the Dutch women look ordinary such was the quality of her ride.

She went around the course in a time of 42:12, some 1:32 ahead of world road race champion Anna van der Breggen (Netherlands).

Defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten (Netherlands) was in 3rd, a huge 1:52 off the pace.
