The Irish U16 boys road cycling team has put in a fantastic performance in the TT at the European Youth Olympics in Slovakia today, with two top 10 placings of the 93-rider field.
Seth Dunwoody (Orchard Shelbourne) placed 5th, after sitting 3rd of a long time, while Patrick Casey (East Bradford) finished in 10th place, the same position as Aine Doherty (VC Glendale) in the girls' TT earlier today.
The third rider in the Irish boys team, Samuel Coleman of Orchard Shelbourne, placed 43rd; a solid performance at this level and in such a big field of the best riders from all across Europe.
The gold medal in the 8.4km TT went to Patryk Goszczurny of Poland, in a time of 10mins 47.9secs. He was 8.59secs faster than the silver medal winner, Pavel Sumpik of Czech Republic. Sebastian Grindley of Great Britain took the bronze, some 12.05secs off the Polish winner.
Dunwoody was 5th at 18.91 seconds while Casey placed 10th at 24.65. Coleman was 43rd at 51.30.
More to come.
