Irish TT Champ Michael Hutchinson wins British National TT title; Ryan Mullen also in mix

Michael Hutchinson in action at the World Championships TT for Ireland last year; he has won another British title.

.

National Time Trial Champion, Michael Hutchinson has added the British 10mile TT title to his impressive testing palmares.

He clocked a time of 19:20 in Norfolk on Saturday.

It was the Cycling Time Trials (CTT) national title race; a test run by what is effectively the national time trial association in Britain. Its events are open to all nationalities.

The title race is a very prestigious one and attracts all of the top time trial riders in Britain, but is not to be confused with British Cycling’s national championships later in the year.

The winner of that event will wear the British champion’s stripes for the following 12 months. And while Hutchinson (In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp RT) will be able to ride that race, he will not be eligible for a medal because he is now an Irish licence holder.

Saturday’s win was his 10th victory in the CTT National Championships since 2000. Hutchinson's winning 19:20 gave him just seven seconds to spare over silver medallist Matthew Bottrill (drag2zero) after the pair had fought it out over the technical 10-mile course on the small country lanes.

Irish junior TT champion and silver medallist at the Junior European TT Championships last year, Ryan Mullen (IG Sigma Sport) finished in 6th place in a time of 20:16; an excellent ride for the 18-year-old in his first year as a senior. It was his first race against the clock of the year, having been focussing on road racing so far in his first campaign in the pro ranks.
