Irish Track Champs: Caoimhe May, Maia Simmons, Odhran Doogan win big

Caoimhe May (Orwell Wheelers) tops the podium from Katie Neill (TC Racing) and Erin Grace Creighton (McConvey Cycles) in the 2km pursuit at the National Junior Track Championships today

Caoimhe May (Orwell Wheelers), Maia Simmons (Canyon
Development) and Odhran Doogan (Caldwell Cycles) have all taken two gold medals
away from the National Junior Track Championships in Dublin today.

There were also new Irish outdoor junior records for May
in the flying 200 and Simmons in the 500 TT.

May won the sprint from Erin Grace
Creighton (McConvey Cycles) after being her 2-1 in the gold-silver match. The
bronze medal was a fight between Emma Smith (Navan RC) and Maria McAllister (TC
Racing); Smith winning that 2-0.

In the flying 200 qualifying, May
was fastest, in a new junior outdoor record time of 13.24, from Creighton
(13.85), Smith (14.44) and Katie Neill of TC Racing (14.451).

May won the junior 2km pursuit gold after going up against Neill in the gold-silver ride-off; 2.45.90 Vs 2.49.44. The bronze went to Creighton after she beat Aoife O’Brien (West Homes-Torelli-Assure); 2.49.38 Vs 3.02.11.

Odhran Doogan (Caldwell Cycles) tops the podium from Stefan Caulfield-Dreier (Killarney Cycling Club) and Patrick O'Loughlin (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) in the junior men’s 3km pursuit

In the first round May was fastest (2.46.21) from Neill (2.50.99), Creighton (2.51.33) and O’Brien (2.54.26).

Simmons won the 500m TT, in a new
Irish junior outdoor record time of 39.37, from May (39.64), Creighton (40.42)
and Smith (41.64).

The scratch race gold medal also
went to Simmons, with May taking silver and Creighton claiming the bronze.

In the junior men’s sprint Rowan
Montgomery (Ballymoney CC) took the gold medal from Niall McLoughlin (Westport
Covey Wheelers) after beating him 2-0 in the gold-silver match.

Mark McGarry (Dungarvan CC) faced Patrick O’Loughlin (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) in the match for bronze, with McGarry winning 2-0.

The podium for the scratch race and the 500m TT title races was the same; Maia Simmons winning both golds from Caoimhe May and Erin Grace Creighton

Montgomery had been fastest in the
flying 200 qualifying with a time of 12:32 and O’Loughlin was 2nd with 12:37,
McLoughlin 3rd with 12:63 and McGarry 4th with 12:84.

In the junior 2km pursuit Doogan beat
Stefan Caulfield Dreier (Killarney CC) in the gold-silver ride-off; 3.51.26 Vs
3.51.50. O’Loughlin got the better of McLoughlin in the battle for bronze;
3.55.38 Vs 4.02.11.

In first round, the top four were:
Doogan (3.48.92), Caulfield-Dreier (3.49.36), McLoughlin (3.53.89) and
O’Loughlin (3.56.32).

Doogan again came out with gold in
the kilo with a time of 1.13.29, from McLoughlin (1.13.69) and O’Loughlin
(1.13.82).

The scratch race saw another title
go to Caldwell Cycles; this time Joseph Owens winning from Caulfield-Dreier and
Eoghan Cooke (Ounavarra Cycling
Club).
