The first Irish rider in action at the 2015 World Road Championships in the US, Ciara Doogan posted a solid ride in her junior women's time trial on Monday.

The Errigal CC 17-year-old, who has already represented Ireland at the European road and track championships this year, was 28th in her 15km TT around Richmond this afternoon Irish time.

Doogan was 2:46 down on new champion Chloe Dygert of the United States who rocketed around the course in a time of 20:18.

She was a massive 1:06 ahead of compatriot Emma White in the silver medal position. Australian Anna-Leeza Hull was a further 20 seconds back rounding out the podium.

Doogan would have perhaps liked to have gone a little bit faster and finished in the top half of the field.

However, the Worlds represent the end of a long season for her during which her main focus has been on the track.

And if she were to finish in the bunch in the junior women's road race on Friday, that would represent a good championships for her.

She took 5th in the points race at the European Track Championships in Athens in July, falling short of the bronze medal by just two points.

It was the best ride by an Irish rider at the combined junior and U23 championships.

She followed up her Europeans track performance with 25th place in the junior road race at the European Road Championships in Estonia in August.

On that occasion she came home in the much depleted peloton sprinting for victory.

It was a feat she would do well to achieve on Friday, especially since she is the only Irish junior down to start the road race at these Worlds.

She was 29th of the 50 starters in the TT at the European Road Championships and said afterwards she felt her track focus had taken the edge off her road legs.
