Ireland's team pursuit riders have been in action on the opening day of the UCI Nations Cup meeting in Adelaide as they continue their quest to qualify for the Paris Olympics this summer.
The foursome - Lara Gillespie, Mia Griffin, Alice Sharpe and Kelly Murphy - were competing in a field of just nine teams in qualifying this morning as they seek to remain in the top 10 in the world towards the Olympics.
They clocked a time of 4:23.118, which was some way off their 4:16.877 national record set in Indonesia this time last year, though none of the times today in Adelaide were among the competing nations' best.
That performance put the Irish 7th of the nine teams in qualifying, beating both China and Japan, who were 8th and 9th. And with eight teams to go through to 'Round 1', the Irish had advanced. They will now meet the USA in 'Round 1'.
Great Britain were fastest today in qualifying, with a time of 4:12.311, with New Zealand 2nd in a time of 4:13.637 and an Australian A selection 3rd in 4:14.566.
