Irish team pursuiters take another solid result at Glasgow World Cup

The Irish women may have been slower in Glasgow than they were last week in Minsk, but their times now are consistently higher than the Irish record they set last season; they quartet clearly having progressed considerably in recent months

The Irish team pursuiters finished 7th yesterday in the
UCI World Cup on the Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.

On Thursday the women - Mia Griffin, Alice Sharpe, Lara
Gillespie and Kelly Murphy - had clocked a time of 4:26.299 in the qualifying
round.

They finished 7th and booked their place in yesterday’s
first round when they met Australia.

In that first round the Irish were slower than they had
been 24 hours earlier; recording a time of 4:27.962.

It meant they were
not among the four fastest teams that went on to the ride-offs that decided
gold and silver and also bronze and 4th place.

marker they set was 4:29.148, but in Minsk last week they lowered their
own national record to 4:25.389.

While their times in Glasgow over the past two days were
slower than last weekend, they were still considerably faster than the national
record they set nine months ago; the team clearly at a much higher level this
season.

off Germany in the final. And in the bronze medal ride-off Italy beat France to
