An Irish team has been named for the Tour de l’Avenir U23 Nations Cup stage race. The event will be the longest and hardest race any of the riders have done. And it is regarded as the U23 version of the Tour de France.

An Irish team has been named for the Tour de l’Avenir which begins in France later this week.

The event runs from August 18th to 27th and is regarded as the U23 Tour de France.

It the past it has proven the event in which many riders who have gone on to be the best pros in the world first really show themselves.

It will be the longest and hardest stage race any of the six riders selected will have ridden.

In the Irish line-up are: Daire Feeley, Darragh O’Mahony, Mark Downey, Michael O’Loughlin, Matthew Teggart and Ryan Reilly.

The team will be managed by Neill Martin; the double British Olympian who currently works with An Post Chainreaction.

As the last event in the UCI U23 Nations Cup, many of the best U23 riders in the world will be on the start line.

One rider absent from the line-up is Eddie Dunbar. He would have gone into this race as team leader. But he has been forced to end his season early.

Dunbar is continuing to feel the symptoms of a bad concussion sustained in the Baby Giro earlier in the season.
