Matt Teggart and Daire Feeley proved best of the Irish team in the U23 Gent Wevelgem in Belgium yesterday. On a day when the speed and short, sharp cobbled climbs split to pieces, the duo made the front group.

There were a total of 54 riders in that reduce peloton going for victory. The race was Žiga Jerman of Slovenia after more than 4½ hours in the saddle.

He edged out Jake Stewart of Great Britain, with Mathieu Burgaudeau of France rounding out the podium. Ireland's Feeley, who has been based in Monaco for the last couple of seasons, finished in 23rd.

And Matt Teggart, who has recently begun riding for Team Wiggins, was on the same time in 27th.

Next best of the Irish was Conn McDunphy, who just lost his place in that lead group on the final climb of the day.

He placed 57th at 1:56. Dermot Trulock and Darragh O'Mahony finished in 77th and 80th respectively; both in a group some 8:10 down.
