Irish cyclist Aaron Wade has claimed another victory in Spain, this time proving best in Menorca just two weeks after taking his first win of the season on the neighbouring Balearic island of Mallorca.

The 19-year-old was competing on Sunday in Trofeu Menorca, an undulating 80km race and the latest round of the Xallenge Illes Balears series.

He got the better of his rivals in a sprint finish but only after an aggressive race, featuring 800m of climbing on each of the three 26.7km laps.

Wade missed what looked like a key breakaway move on the opening lap and, fearing it might make it all the way, he got across on his own.

However, the cooperation in the group was lacking, which meant it faltered and they were reabsorbed by the chasing bunch. The second lap unfolded in a similar manner; a group going clear, though the bunch appeared to lose interest in chasing after them.

Wade decided to attack after it and got across to the leaders once more. But this time he attacked from the front group. When he did he pulled clear with one other rider and they set about the task of staying away.

However, as the
series is hard fought and riders were competing for their overall positions,
Wade and his breakaway companion were chased down and caught, despite the two
leaders fully committing out front.

As the race went out onto the final lap there was further change at the head of affairs as another group, this time with just three riders, got off the front and gained what would prove to be the decisive gap.

Wade put all his eggs in one basket and went for broke after the leaders before getting across to them. Once up front, and making a group of four, the breakaway riders worked together to stay clear, with Wade once again using his noted kick to sprint in for victory.

Aaron Wade is top step on the podium for the second time in as many weeks
