The National Hill Climb Championships take place this Sunday in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, and are being organised by Island Wheelers. A total of 51 riders have entered the event, which will be fought out on a 2.25km climb averaging 4.9 per cent.
In the women's race, Linda Kelly (Spin the Bean Power by Coffee) looks like the stand-out favourite while the men's race sees a clutch of top names entered to battle it out for the gold medal.
Irish international Kelly will come up against Sharon Murray (Un-Attached Munster), Lauren Garvey (Armagh Down CC) and Hazel Smyth (Kinning Cycles Cycling Club).
In the elite men's race, Ronan Mc Laughlin (Team Dan Morrissey-Pactimo), Darren Rafferty (Hagens Berman Axeon) and former champion Darnell Moore (Team Caldwell Cycles) look like the big three.
However, there are others in the field who can get up into the medals including Conor McCann (Inspired Cycling), Conor Kissane (Killarney Cycling Club) and Gareth O'Neill (Team Caldwell Cycles).
