Three Irish cyclists have taken top 10 results at 'Round 2' of British Cycling's National Trophy Series Round in Falkirk. Dean Harvey (Spellman Dublin Port), Aine Doherty (VC Glendale) and Liam O'Brien (Fermoy CC) were all in the mix in their races, with 14 Irish riders lining out in the UCI-ranked C2 events.
Harvey, who won at the Ulster Cyclocross Series in Fintona two weeks ago and was best of the Irish in Verge Cross Clonmel last weekend, placed 7th in the elite race Scotland on Sunday in a race won Cameron Mason of Trinity Racing.
After 58 minutes of racing, and in a combined elite and U23 men's field of 66 riders, Harvey was 3:00 down on the winner. On a course with lots of steep climbs and technical sections, Harvey (19) was in the top five for the first half of the race.
He then lost a couple of places after some mistakes and fatigue. Fellow Irish riders Darnell Moore (Caldwell Cycles) and Lee Harvey (VC Glendale) were 28th and 41st.
In the junior woman's race, new junior Aine Doherty (16) once again showed her promised; the VC Glendale rider getting up for 9th place. Her race, featuring 29 starters, was was won by Elizabeth McKinnon, who took silver in the British championships last season.
Doherty was 2:17 down after 45 minutes of racing and having already won the elite GP Brian Kinning this season, she has hit the ground running. Fellow Irish rider Hannah McClorey (RFDA) was 18th at 6:02.
In the men's junior race, another of the young Irish talents - Liam O'Brien (17)) - placed 9th after his 3rd place last weekend in Verge 'Cross Clonmel. The British rider who won that race in Clonmel last weekend - Britain's Oli Akers - was victorious, with O'Brien 3:46 down.
There were also six other Irish riders in the 59-rider field - Joseph Mullen (Navan RC) was 25th, Tadhg Killeen (Orwell Wheelers) was 32nd, Curtis Neill (Carn Wheelers) was 34th, Cal Tutty (Dungarvan CC) placed 9:17, Sean Tolan (Drogheda Wheelers) finished in 41st and Travis Harkness (VC Glendale) was a DNF.
The elite women's race - with 25 starters - also had Irish interest with Darcey Harkness (VC Glendale) placing 12th and Roisin Lally (Scott Bright Motor Group) 19th. The race was won by British cyclocross international Millie Couzens.
