There have been some revisions to the Irish team that will taken on the
World Road Championships in Yorkshire.

Nicolas Roche is ruled out after fracturing his kneecap when crashing
out of La Vuelta after he had led the race.

In his place Rory Townsend, who has been on the attack at the Tour of
Britain in recent days, is drafted in.

He will take Roche’s place in the elite men’s road race team alongside
Sam Bennett, Eddie Dunbar, Conor Dunne, Ryan Mullen and Dan Martin.

The only other change to the Irish team is that Mullen and Dunbar have both been confirmed to ride the elite men’s TT.

Mullen has been suffering from a knee injury so his inclusion is good
news. Cycling Ireland had left the two TT spaces open when it announced the
team two weeks ago.

But now it is confirm Mullen and Dunbar are the chosen pair to represent
Ireland against the clock.

“We’re going into the 2019 Road World Championships with one of the
strongest teams of any nation and with a genuine opportunity to take on the
race,” said Cycling Ireland head coach Brian Nugent

“It goes without saying, the Road World Championships is a major target
for all our riders and the team is highly motivated.

“e are determined to put in a strong performance, work well together as
a team and deliver a good result in the green jersey.

“We are expecting huge Irish support in Yorkshire and the team is
looking forward to the experience.

“It promises to be a great week of racing and there will be plenty of
opportunities throughout the week for our up and coming men and women.”

Alice
Sharpe is the only Irish woman given the nod for the elite women’s road race in
Yorkshire.

Kelly Murphy (Storey Racing) and Anna Turvey (Drag 2 Zero) will ride the TT
