Irish champs medalist Ni Reachtagain takes victory at Corkagh Park

Claire Ni Reachtagain put in a
really big finish at the National Omnium Championships in Dublin at the weekend
and the Sundrive Track Team rider did it again last night, this time in Corkagh
Park.

However, while her late effort
secured her the bronze medal on the Sundrive Rd velodrome on Saturday, last
night she took victory on the road.

She sprinted in at the end of the ‘A
race’ in the Women’s Cycling League 2021; just edging out Aideen Keenan
(Dublin Wheelers CC) in a very tight finish after a cagey finale.

Eva Brennan of Deenside Wheelers took the final step on the podium after she had also won the prime earlier in the contest.

The winner two weeks ago, Kate Earlie (St Tiernan’s CC) claimed the masters category last night while Kathy Harrison (Ossory CC) was best A2, which secures her promotion to A1.

The race came down to a sprint after the scratch group
worked well together to reel in the limit riders, though they were also
committed and the two groups merged late in the race.

With the action perhaps cagier last night than in recent
weeks, the large group failed to split. And while Keenan launched her sprint
early at the finish, Ni Reachtagain reached for the
afterburners to beat her to the line.

The B race also came down to a sprint from a group, won
very convincingly by Suzanne White. The Sorrento CC rider put in a firm bike
throw to make sure of her victory, as she was unaware her nearest rivals were
nowhere close to her in the sprint.

Olivia Moore (Unattached) came through for 2nd place,
just getting the better of Jane Cullen (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) in what was a
close fight between the pair.
