Darren Rafferty has confirmed his world class potential with a brilliant ride at the European Championships in Italy today. The 18-year-old Irishman was 4th in the junior TT.
He missed out on the bronze medal by just two seconds over the 22.4km course. However, while he will be disappointed to miss the podium having gone so close, the result is confirmation of where his talent sits in an international context.
Conal Scully, a very talented rider against the watch, was also in action for Ireland this morning and he put in a very strong performance, placing 21st of the 52-rider field.

The European title was won by Alec Segaert of Belgium, who went around the course in a time of 26:27, for an average speed of 50.813km per hour. He claimed gold by five seconds from Cian Uijtdebroeks.
The silver medal winner, also from Belgium, has been tipped by many to be the next big talent out of Belgium after Remco Evenepoel. France's Eddy le Huitouze took the bronze, some 40 seconds down on winner Segaert.
Rafferty was 42 seconds off the gold medal winner and just two seconds off the bronze; the Irish rider scorching around the course in an average speed of 49.503. Ireland's Scully was 21st at 1:54, in an average speed of 47:407km per hour.
More to come.
