George Peden (Team PB Performance) has won the RTTC 25 mile TT Championships in Britain, with an eyewatering time that went very close to breaking the Irish elite men's record over the distance.

Peden, who has been based in Leeds after going to university there, has been in fantastic form in recent months, taking repeated wins against the clock in Britain, with six victories from the last six outings. He was also 3rd in the Irish TT Championships this year behind Ryan Mullen (Bora-hansgrohe) and Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost).

Today, in Forfar, Angus, Scotland, the Northern Irishman took one of British cycling's blue ribboned TT titles. From Co Antrim, the 23-year-old was on the only rider, of 76 starters, to go under 46 minutes for the distance, setting a new personal best for the '25' after clearly timing his form to perfection.

He claimed the victory in a time of 45:59, just 14 seconds outside the Irish record set by Marcus Christie (Banbridge CC) two years ago. Peden's time today saw him cover the distance in 52.46km per hour. He was some 13 seconds faster than silver medal winner. Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo). Michael Gill (HUUB WattShop) took bronze in a time of 47:09, some 1:10 down on Peden.

The RTTC (Road Time Trials Council), or Cycling Time Trials, is effectively the national body for TTs in Britain. It holds national championships at a variety of classic TT distances each year, with Peden winning the '25' today.

However, the winner of each championship race wins the RTTC title, rather than the British TT national title - which is held by Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers). The RTTC's time trials, including its championship events, are open to riders of all nationalities.
