Conor Murphy, who is emerging as an exciting talent in Irish cycling, has underlined his potential by taking victory in the latest round of the British Cyclocross National Trophy Series. The youth rider won the U16 boys race in the fifth round of the series in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, yesterday.

On the same day Murphy (Rostrevor Mountain Bike Club) was victorious, young Rian McCrystal (Bellurgan Wheelers), who won the U14 support race at the Dublin World Cup last weekend, was to the fore in the U14 race in Britain. McCrystal's 'National Trophy' event was won by Xander Graham (Jukebox Cycling Team), the youngster who went viral after his cameo role on a stage of the Tour of Britain last year.

Murphy has shown great promise already in cyclocross, with his recent wins including the U16 Verge Cross Clonmel earlier this season. He was also U14 national road race champion last year and won the U15 criterium and TT crowns this year.

Yesterday in Lancashire he topped the U16 boys podium from Mak Larkin (Rotor Race Team) and Innes McDonald (Edinburgh RC).
