Susie Mitchell (Sundrive Track Team) is Ireland's newest Masters World Champion after winning the Individual Pursuit last night at the Manchester velodrome.

The 36-year-old Carlow woman was fastest in her age category over two kilometres with a time of 2:36.286. It's the icing on the cake for the track specialist having already won several national medals this year – gold in the Team Sprint, silver in the Team Pursuit, bronze in the Individual Pursuit and silver in the 500 metre TT.

Mitchell had been a few hundredths of a second behind Australian Rebecca Wheadon for most of the race but finished much stronger than her rival to win by nearly half a second.

Her achievement on the boards in Manchester is remarkable considering she gave birth, to a baby girl, in May.
