Jamie Meehan is enjoying the best season of his career to date having stepped up to UCI Continental level this year, continuing his strong run in Italy today at Giro del Belvedere (1.2U).

The Irish rider and his AVC Aix Provence Dole team mates were competing against many of the top U23 development teams in the sport, with victory going to Lorenzo Finn (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe Rookies), the Italian won who the junior road race at the Worlds in dominant fashion last year.

Meehan took 10th place, a fine result in what was a stacked field in the 168.5km, run over two circuits with climbs through the day; the hardest two on the finishing circuit to be negotiated twice.

Fellow Irish U23 rider, Ronan O'Connor (Team Skyline) also put in a very strong shift today, finishing in the same small group as Meehan - some 2:10 down on the solo winner - to take 17th place.

Finn claimed victory by 30 seconds from Jakob Omrzel (Bahrain Victorious Development) and Marco Schrettl (Tirol KTM Cycling Team), who were 2nd and 3rd, almost a minute up on a four-rider chase group. Then came the 10-man chasing group containing Meehan and O'Connor.
