Emer Heverin (CAMS Majaco) has had a very successful few weeks, with 5th at junior Liège-Bastogne-Liège and gold at the elite National Criterium Championships. The 16-year-old has now followed up with a very strong performance at junior Tour of Flanders.

On a day when the temperatures were as big a factor as the terrain, Belfast's Heverin stayed the course as the favourites' group split to pieces in the 73.8km UCI-ranked Belgian classic.

With six short and sharp climbs, and eight cobbled sectors, the event threw the challenges that most of the young riders, including Heverin, would not have encountered before.

A three-rider group went to the finish, with Lise Revol (France) winning in a close sprint from Edda Bieberle (Airtox-Carl Ras Junior Women), with a second rider off the French national team, Thaïs Poirier, placing 3rd at three seconds.
