Ireland’s Golden Girls storm to third World Champs gold on the bounce

Eve McCrystal and Katie George Dunlevy have taken another World Championships gold medal; winning their TT in Holland today

Ireland’s Golden Girls, Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have continued their dominance with a third UCI Paracycling World Championships TT title.

It’s the third year in succession their
tandem has come away from the Worlds with the iconic rainbow bands.

And today in Emmen, Holland, they beat
all comers by a very significant margin.

In the silver medal position the Kiwi
pairing of Hannah van Kampen and Emma Foy were almost one minute down on
their Irish rivals.

Dunlevy and McCrystal put 55 seconds into their nearest challengers; a huge margin over a race distance 31.2km.

"We had form coming into it from
our previous results," said Katie George Dunlevy after her winning ride.

"I believed that we could do it,
and I really, really wanted this one. I know Eve did as well.

“It was really tough out there. It was a
flat course and that suited us, but it was a long, hard TT.

“We fought all the way. I am absolutely delighted to win again."

Eve McCrystal was also delighted, saying
the tandems that she and Dunlevy were chasing helped them.

“I enjoyed it. I could see a few riders
ahead of us so it was nice to have a carrot to push on and win in the
end."

Ronan Grimes was also in action for
Ireland today, placing 4th and just outside the medals in his MC4 category.
